Thedragon-boatracessymbolizethemanyattemptstorescueandrecoverQu'**ody.Atypicaldragonboatrangesfrom50-100feetinlength,withabeamofabout5.5feet,accommodatingtwopaddlersseatedsidebyside.

Awoodendragonheadisattachedatthebow,andadragontailatthestern(船尾).Abannerhoistedonapoleisalsofastenedatthesternandthehullisdecoratedwithred,greenandbluescalesedgedingold.Inthecenteroftheboatisacanopiedshrinebehindwhichthedrummers,gong(铜锣)beatersandcymbal(铙钹)playersareseatedtosetthepaceforthepaddlers.Therearealsomenpositionedatthebowtosetofffirecrackers,tossriceintothewaterandpretendtobelookingforQu.Allofthenoiseandpageantrycreatesanatmosphereofgaietyandexcitementfortheparticipantsandspectatorsalike.Theracesareheldamongdifferentclans,villagesandorganizations,andthewinnersareawardedmedals,banners,jugsofwineandfestivemeals.
